Selling Your Home – Top Tips
At mosshaselhurst solicitors in Cheshire, we know it’s not always easy to sell your property, so give yourself the best chance by following our top tips:
- Stand on the pavement and imagine you are looking at your home for the first time. Does anything need painting, trimming or weeding?
- Do all those jobs you’ve been putting off; repaint tired or quirky rooms in neutral colours, replace the old light fitting and fix the dripping tap. Pay special attention to the hallway – first impressions count!
- You may want to put in a new bathroom. Kitchens are more expensive to replace and unlikely to be worth it, but you could spruce the kitchen up with new cupboard handles.
- Declutter. It sounds easy but it’s often hard to part with favourite items. Get a friend to help.
- Create the mood with fresh flowers, classical music, lights in dark places, fresh coffee or bread.
- Make sure the windows are sparkling and the bathroom spotless. It sounds obvious but the house should look and smell pristine.
- Wash dishes and put them away, scrub work surfaces, make beds and tidy away children’s toys
- Take pets outside during viewings – not everyone will love your dog or cat!
- Make each room feel as spacious as possible – if necessary put items into storage or ask a friend to look after them
- Hide your dustbins, mow the lawn and weed the flower beds. Make sure there is space for prospective Buyers to park.
- Pay special attention to the front door. Make sure the bell works, the mat is clean and the paint is fresh. Hanging baskets and topiary make the house look appealing.
